School Districts

Balance It Out: ArkansasSM will be available to every child in the Dollarway, Harrison, and Paragould school districts. Each of the selected districts:

  • Is actively participating in the Coordinated School Health Program (CSHP)
  • Is aligned with the goals of the Balance It Out: Arkansas program
  • Represents a diverse cross-section of the Arkansas population
  • Includes many Medicaid beneficiaries
  • Has a high prevalence of overweight children or children at-risk for being overweight

The program will provide school and community-based screenings, behavior assessments, and one-on-one coaching for students and families to help them change behavior and improve their health.

Unlike other school-based health education programs, Balance It Out: Arkansas incorporates community-based care teams of lay educators and school nurses to help students better understand their health, improve their ability to adopt positive behaviors, and encourage these same behaviors within their homes among the rest of their family.
